How do you keep your toddler entertained in public when they start making a scene? help!!?
i have a 21month old baby girl, whom has been acting up now for the past 3 weeks. At home she does better cuz she is all over the place ,but out in public == no way!!!! i refuse to go to a store alone with her because she has gotten bad . i put her in the shopping cart and not even 5 min into it she wants out and trys to climb out. We cant even go to eat at a restaurant. The only thing that catches her attention is the 2 games on my phone which she tries to play ,but that doesn't work all the time. she loves dora and sponge bob. i thought of getting a Leapster explorer a fisher price xl or a v tech mobi go. i purchased the mobi go and she didn't know what to do and when she got tired oif it she would throw it on the floor. the leapster explores was to advanced for her.
i need something that plays videos, games and she can doodle , and reads?
I definitely would not plug her in. It becomes a crutch and then you can't do anything without it.
First of all, prevention. Don't go shopping or to a restaurant when she's tired or hungry. Don't set her up for failure.
Then when you get there, be proactive. Engage her in something immediately, don't wait for a meltdown.
My standing in line/grocery store games are I Spy (use colors at that age. I spy something yellow, I spy something blue, etc.), fill in the blank nursery rhymes/poems (you say the first line and all but the rhyming word of the second line and she fills it in), and singing songs (I can't carry a tune in a bucket, I make everyone around me suffer anyway).
Engage her in your grocery shopping. Give her 3 items to be on the look out for while you shop. I would also allow her to get down. If she won't hold onto the cart, then she goes back in for 2 minutes before she gets to try again. Aim your shopping trip to hit the bakery or deli halfway through for a good behavior cookie or slice of cheese (I've yet to run into a grocery store that doesn't hand out cookies or cheese to kids).
At a restaurant, bring an assortment of small toys that are only for restaurants. I had a tub of old McDonald's toys and a mini magna doodle in my car forever for just that purpose.
