Who should I consult with for in-person career advice?
I work full-time at a public university as a general academic advisor, study skills instructor, and coordinator of a mentoring program, but I'm having trouble sorting out the next step in my career progression. Most positions look like too much of a leap or just a lateral move. The career center is strictly reserved for students and may be too close to my own office not to be an issue anyway. HR doesn't seem to serve a career advising function here. I'm considering some serious changes too: law school, PhD in Higher Ed Adminstration, MSW - all will require quitting the job in order to pursue the degree. One exception is a leadership PhD program here, but doesn't sound brilliantly interesting (neither does higher ed admin, but it's practical). Maybe there are other options out there? Feeling pidgeon-holed into academic advising...
