Anyone have the Leapfrog Leapster2?
Considering buying a Leapster for my daughter but having a hard time finding more detailed info online. For example, what kind of batteries does it require and how long is the battery life? Also, can you plug in headphones to it?
Thanks!
Hi - we love Leapster! The battery life is fairly decent - we bought the charger though - well worth it. We don't have leapster 2 - but have had Leapster and the LMAX - they take AA's. The games can be pricey - Toys R Us usually has a pretty good sale on them around Black Friday. Otherwise check craigslist and ebay - going price for used is $7-15 depending on title. All the Leapster Games play on all platforms (nice touch) - there are some enhancements for Leapster 2 to track their progress online. I never saw the need to upgrade to do so though.
We love the game Scholastic's Math Missions, Creature Create, and Get Puzzled - they are played very often. The other ones my girls like (ages 6 &
are Animal Genius and Sonic. Depending on the age of your daughter, Leapfrog Letter and Word Factory are good - they are the movies with games included - these are HTF - I got them on ebay. America and Grammar Rock are fun too - Schoolhouse Rock songs & games.
My older daughter plays them to unwind - the Get Puzzled still has a level that is not too easy for her. She does it in her "down time" and I like that it keeps some things fresh. My 6 year old likes it as well - especially the Schoolhouse Rock cartridges. (These are also HTF we got them on ebay)
As far as headphones - yes that is an option - but have to say - even when my girls are side by side, playing different games, they don't wear them. The sound is not that loud, but loud enough to hear.
If cost is an issue - look for a system used on ebay- you can get a leapster, and sometimes games bundled on ebay (a charger if you are lucky) - system, 7-9 games and sometimes a charger can run about $70-90.
If your daughter has small hands and you are looking for a system easier to hold - the used LMAX is the way to go - but the charger for that is harder to find.
Feel free to email me with other questions -
