what to do when my mac book pro freezes on the loading screen?
for some odd reason when i start up my mac book pro 17' it gets stuck on the apple loading screen. its only done this like once a few months ago and gradually just loaded then after. now it wont start up and jus freezes on the loading screen, what do i do?
Put the Restore Disk (the grey disk that came with your MBPro) or a retail OS X disk in the drive and then reboot - as soon as you hear the chimes press and hold the C key to boot from the disk. Let it load, select your language and on the next screen click Utilities at the top of the screen. Open Disk Utility, click your hard drive in the bar on the left, then click the "Repair Permissions" button and wait for it to do it's thing. Then click the "Repair Disk" button and wait again. When it's done quit Disk Ute and reboot normally. It might seem to hang on the grey screen, but if the gear icon is spinning, just wait - it might take a while the first time (while it runs some repair scripts) but after that it should be fine.
If for some reason that doesn't work, try resetting the NVRAM: reboot and as soon as you hear the chimes press and hold COMMAND OPTION P R and keep holding until you hear the chime a second time. Then let go and let it reboot.
