How do you get started in writing books?
I have been interested in writing a book i have the creative mind but where do i go from there. I would like to write a book of poems/short thoughts. I have a great idea for a crime book that i would really like to write and turn in to a book one day. Just want to know how someone would go about it? Thanks
Just start writing down thoughts and ideas, develop them and eventually a story will form from it. I've been writing ever since I was 13, never finished anything, I'm 22 now and finished my first novel (release in June). I had the first line to my book written down for like three months before I was able to actually find the story I wanted to write.
Try some writing exercises. Join Helium.com (it's free). There are many things you can do to help in your writing. The the best thing you can do is just write whatever comes to you. Eventually you will get hit with this awesome story and things will just flow right out in words.
It's also good to connect with other authors. Ask questions. Have them look over your writing (if they are willing of course). Post blogs on social sites, get your writing out there for people to read, to comment on.
